Volvo is set to advance the electrification of heavy trucks with the launch of a new long-range version of its FH Electric model, slated for release in the latter half of 2025. The updated FH Electric will offer a range of up to 600 kilometers on a single charge, allowing transport companies to handle interregional and long-distance routes without the need for frequent recharging.

Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks, stated, “Our new electric flagship will enhance our comprehensive lineup of electric trucks and support zero-emission transport over longer distances. It’s an ideal solution for transport firms with high annual mileage looking to reduce CO2 emissions.”

Advanced Driveline Technology for Extended Range

The 600km range is made possible by Volvo’s new e-axle driveline technology, which accommodates a larger battery capacity. Enhanced battery efficiency, an advanced battery management system, and overall improvements in powertrain efficiency also contribute to the extended range.

Volvo Trucks, a leading player in medium- and heavy-duty electric vehicles, currently offers eight battery-electric models. This extensive range supports electrification across city and regional distribution, construction, waste management, and soon, long-distance transport. To date, Volvo has delivered over 3,800 electric trucks to customers in 46 countries.

Alm added, “The transport sector accounts for seven percent of global carbon emissions. Battery-electric trucks are crucial for reducing our climate impact and offer significant benefits for drivers, including reduced noise and vibrations.”

Volvo Trucks is committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2040 through a three-pronged technology strategy. This approach includes battery electric, fuel cell electric, and combustion engines running on renewable fuels such as green hydrogen, biogas, or hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO).
