Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) India has helped two Korean undercarriage parts manufacturers set up operations in India, boosting local production. These suppliers will serve Volvo and other market players, said Dimitrov Krishnan, Managing Director of Volvo CE India.

Krishnan added that India’s supply chain has greatly improved. Volvo CE’s new product, with 70% local content, proves this progress. “It’s a tough challenge,” Krishnan said, “but we’re making it happen.” The Indian Construction Equipment Manufacturers Association (ICEMA) supports these efforts, shown by a recent delegation visit to Japan, Krishnan noted.

Last month, Volvo CE launched the new EC210, a 20-tonne hydraulic excavator. Excavators are the second-largest product in India’s construction equipment market, with about 30,000-35,000 units sold annually. The 20-tonne segment is key, making up 70% of excavator sales, or 18,000-20,000 units each year. “This segment is too important to ignore,” Krishnan said.
