Volks Energie, a leading provider of solar energy, HVAC, and energy storage solutions, has secured a project to assist Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) in transitioning from traditional lead-acid batteries to more reliable and sustainable Nickel-Cadmium (Ni-Cd) batteries. With a vast network of 600+ substations nationwide, Power Grid plays a critical role in India’s electricity transmission infrastructure. The shift to Ni-Cd batteries aligns with the country’s commitment to long-term sustainability and phasing out environmentally hazardous technologies.
Compared to lead-acid batteries, which have a lifespan of 5-7 years, Ni-Cd batteries last over 20 years, significantly reducing hazardous waste and lowering operational costs. Additionally, Ni-Cd technology offers greater reliability and resilience, especially in extreme climatic conditions, eliminating issues like sudden failure, which is common with VRLA batteries, stated Volks Energie.
