Viraj Profiles Pvt Ltd. and Avaada have achieved a significant milestone with the inauguration of their joint venture, the 130 MW DC Solar Power Plant in Soyagaon, Maharashtra. Initiated in March 2023, this project aimed to convert 40% of Viraj Profiles’ energy consumption to solar power by mid-2024. The successful completion underscores Viraj Profiles’ strong commitment to sustainability and renewable energy, setting a new benchmark in India’s steel industry.
Mr Neeraj Raja Kochhar, CMD of Viraj Profiles, announced the official commencement of power generation from the solar plant starting July 1, 2024. He expressed gratitude to Mr Vineet Mittal, CMD of Avaada Group, and their teams for their collaborative efforts in delivering the project effectively.
“This project is the realization of a three-year dream to embrace green energy and utilize renewable solar power across all Viraj installations,” said Mr. Kochhar. “It reflects our dedication to responsible and sustainable business practices.”
Project Highlights:
The solar power plant spans approximately 350 acres and boasts a capacity of 130 MW DC, capable of generating 200 million units of green energy annually. Over its projected 25-year lifespan, the plant is expected to produce a total of 5,000 million units of green energy, significantly reducing reliance on traditional energy sources.
The environmental benefits are profound, with the project projected to save 17,196 metric tons of oil equivalent (MTOE) and reduce CO2 emissions by 77,110 tons annually—equivalent to planting 3,547,089 trees each year.
