Vipul Organics Ltd, a specialty chemicals company, announced its foray into membrane production on Thursday, tapping into the expanding global water treatment sector. The BSE-listed company, known for its work in pigments and dyes, described this move as a strategic step toward diversifying into sustainable technologies.
Membrane technology plays a crucial role in water and wastewater treatment, food processing, pharmaceuticals, and industrial filtration. The worldwide water and wastewater treatment industry, valued at USD 323.32 billion in 2023, is expected to nearly double, reaching USD 617.81 billion by 2032, growing at a compound annual growth rate of 7.5%, according to data from Fortune Business Insights.
In India, the water treatment market, estimated at USD 2.30 billion in 2024, is projected to grow to USD 6.30 billion by 2034, expanding at an annual rate of 10.6%, according to Market Research Future. “This initiative leverages our expertise in specialty chemicals and zero-liquid discharge technologies,” said Vipul P Shah, Managing Director of the company.
The new venture will be headed by Dr Vatsal Shah, the managing director’s son, who holds a PhD in membrane technology from Imperial College London. A dedicated facility for membrane production is being set up at the company’s greenfield project in Saykha, Gujarat, which will operate as a standalone unit focused on membrane manufacturing.
The facility will cater to both domestic and international markets. “As industries increasingly adopt circular economy principles and work toward reducing water usage, we see membrane technology as an essential driver of change,” Mr Shah stated. This expansion aims to minimize business risks, expand the company’s technological capabilities, and align with the evolving demands of the industry.
