VinFast, the Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has officially inaugurated its EV assembly plant at the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, marking a major milestone in its global expansion strategy. The move reaffirms VinFast’s long-term commitment to India, the world’s third-largest automobile market, and highlights the company’s confidence in the country’s strategic role in the future of global electric mobility.

Spanning 408 acres at the SIPCOT industrial complex in Sillanatham, the plant is projected to generate over 3,500 jobs over the next five years. It is part of a ₹16,000-crore investment agreement signed with the Tamil Nadu government during the Global Investors Meet in 2024.

Alongside the plant inauguration, VinFast also opened its largest Indian showroom in Teynampet, Chennai. Spread over 4,700 sq ft the premium outlet is operated by Maansarovar Motors, a well-established name in Chennai’s automotive retail scene. This facility will showcase VinFast’s latest electric SUVs, the VF 6 and VF 7, offering customers a hands-on brand experience. It is the first in Tamil Nadu and one of 35 showrooms planned across 27 Indian cities by the end of 2025.

At the launch, Pham Sanh Chau, CEO of VinFast Asia, said, “Chennai’s legacy and its thriving ecosystem of innovation, skilled talent, and advanced infrastructure make it a natural choice for VinFast’s first-ever dealership in Tamil Nadu, which is also our largest touchpoint across the country. This marks a retail milestone with a meaningful step toward co-creating a greener, smarter, and future-ready India.”

VinFast, a subsidiary of Vingroup JSC, is a leading Vietnamese electric vehicle company focused on making EVs accessible to everyone. Its product lineup includes electric SUVs, e-scooters, and e-buses. With an ambitious global expansion plan, VinFast is rapidly growing its manufacturing capabilities and dealership network across North America, Europe, and Asia, with India playing a central role in its strategy.
