In a major move to bolster India’s self-reliance in aerospace and defence, RRP DEFENCE LTD (RRP GROUP, India), through its subsidiary Vimananu Ltd, has partnered with CYGR (a Franco-American entity) to establish a state-of-the-art drone manufacturing facility in India. This collaboration aligns with the government’s Make in India initiative.
The partnership will focus on producing advanced drone systems for tactical, surveillance, and industrial purposes, combining French-American technological expertise with India’s manufacturing capabilities. The new facility, located in Navi Mumbai, will produce cutting-edge drones, including Hand-Launched Fixed Wing Drones—compact and portable for field use, Nano Drones—small drones for indoor and close-range surveillance, and ISR Drones—specialized for Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance operations.
Rajendra Chodankar, Chairman of RRP Defence Ltd, remarked, “This partnership marks a pivotal moment for India’s UAV industry. By combining our local manufacturing strengths and on-ground expertise with CYGR’s world-class technology, we are creating solutions tailored to India’s specific operational needs. Dr Zaynah, the Global Advisor, also announced that they would soon secure an immediate contract valued at over USD 20 million for Make in India global defence exports, with plans to produce hundreds of units annually. The Letter of Intent (LoI) will be officially released as well.
This strategic partnership will enable the manufacturing of French UAV technology in India at the new Navi Mumbai facility, focusing on drones for defence, homeland security, and industrial sectors. It will enhance India’s defence capabilities, create high-skilled jobs, and support the growth of the aerospace export market. This initiative underscores India’s rise as a global leader in drone technology, supported by strategic international collaboration and indigenous manufacturing expertise.
