Vikram Solar Expands Into Solid-State Cell and Battery Production

Vikram Solar, one of India’s leading solar photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturers, is set to establish a 1GWh fully integrated solid-state cell and battery production facility. This new plant, with the potential to scale up to 5 GWh, aims to meet the growing global demand for energy storage solutions. The facility will incorporate proprietary Battery Management System (BMS) technology, setting the stage for VikramSolar’s entry into the energy storage market.

This new venture is expected to make significant contributions to the energy storage sector by offering sustainable, high-performance battery solutions. Combining VikramSolar’s extensive experience in solar PV module production with solid-state battery technology, the company is poised to support the shift towards a cleaner and more efficient energy future while driving innovation and economic growth.

Gyanesh Chaudhary, Chairman and Managing Director of Vikram Solar, stated, “Vikram Solar has been at the forefront of India’s renewable energy transformation, and we are committed to furthering this with large-scale solar adoption. Our solid-state batteries, made largely from domestically sourced components, support the ‘Atmanirbharta’ initiative and align with India’s renewable energy and climate goals. In collaboration with our partners, Entity2 Energy Storage Pvt Ltd., who hold multiple patents for non-lithium solid-state battery technologies, we are building scalable solutions to meet the growing demand for energy storage. According to CRISIL, India currently meets only 15-20% of its power needs from renewable energy, with a target of 50% by 2030. To achieve this, significant investment in battery storage will be necessary.”

Vikram Solar’s solid-state batteries provide a significant leap in energy storage technology. With superior power retention, these batteries experience minimal electroactive metal loss, ensuring long-lasting and reliable performance. Additionally, their thermal and fire-resistant properties enhance safety, making them a reliable choice for various applications.

Designed to perform under diverse conditions, these solid-state batteries operate effectively across a wide temperature range without the risk of dendrite formation. This stability contributes to their exceptional durability, with a lifespan of up to 10,000 charge cycles, ensuring prolonged use and reducing the need for frequent replacements. Their stable charge rates of 5C further optimize their efficiency and high-performance capabilities.

These batteries also promote self-reliance, as a majority of their raw materials are sourced locally, supporting resilient supply chains and benefiting local industries. Furthermore, they are eco-friendly, constructed from non-toxic materials and fully recyclable, reducing their environmental footprint and contributing to a sustainable future.

By advancing energy storage solutions, Vikram Solar is addressing global energy security and sustainability challenges. With the increasing demand for continuous clean energy, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are becoming a vital solution for efficient energy storage. VikramSolar’s entry into BESS further strengthens its position as a comprehensive provider of both power generation and storage solutions. The company’s strong partner network and research and development capabilities provide a competitive edge in developing cutting-edge battery technologies.
