Venwind Refex Power Ltd, a recently established subsidiary of Refex Industries Ltd, has announced plans to invest ₹800 crore in the development of advanced manufacturing facilities for wind turbines with a nominal capacity of 5.3 megawatts. The company aims to establish a strong domestic manufacturing base to support India’s growing renewable energy needs.

This strategic initiative follows the conclusion of a licensing agreement with Vensys Energy AG, Germany—a global leader in wind turbine technology and a pioneer in permanent magnet, medium-speed generator systems. The collaboration grants Venwind access to Vensys’ proprietary technology, widely recognized for its efficiency and suitability for diverse wind conditions.

The entry into wind turbine manufacturing represents a significant diversification for Refex Industries, a listed entity with interests spanning refrigeration gases, renewable power generation, ash and coal handling, power trading, pharmaceuticals, medical technology, and sustainable mobility. The venture is spearheaded by Madhusudan Khemka, a seasoned industry expert known for his leadership at ReGen Powertech. Khemka played a pivotal role in facilitating the partnership between Refex Group and Vensys, leveraging his long-standing relationship with the German technology firm.

According to Mr Khemka, the 5.3 MW turbine incorporates a hybrid design—merging the advantages of geared and gearless systems—tailored for deployment in regions with low wind speeds. With a cut-in speed of just 2 metres per second, the turbine is particularly well-suited for states such as Odisha and Jharkhand, where land availability is high but wind intensity is moderate. Notably, Vensys technology is also utilized by global wind energy leader Goldwind, underscoring the proven performance and scalability of the platform being adopted by Venwind Refex Power.

Venwind Refex Power Limited, established in December 2024, is a joint venture between Refex Industries and Venwind, aiming to revolutionize wind energy in India through innovation and sustainability. With an exclusive license from Vensys Energy AG, Germany, the company manufactures 5.3 MW wind turbines featuring permanent magnet generators and hybrid drivetrain technology. Leveraging Vensys’s proven technology, which has over 120 GW operational worldwide, Venwind Refex plans to achieve a 5 GW annual production capacity within five years. The company focuses on delivering cost-effective, reliable, and technologically advanced solutions to support India’s renewable energy sector and promote a sustainable future.
