Vedanta Limited, a global leader in natural resources and technology, has reaffirmed its commitment to Odisha’s development by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) worth Rs. 1 lakh crore with the Government of Odisha during the opening of the Utkarsh Odisha – Make in Odisha Conclave 2025 in Bhubaneswar. The MoU was signed in the presence of Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, Chief Minister of Odisha, and Shri Anil Agarwal, Chairman of Vedanta Limited. This partnership aims to boost Odisha’s industrial sector by setting up state-of-the-art aluminium production facilities and advancing sustainable development across the state.
The agreement outlines the establishment of a 3 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) aluminium plant and the creation of an aluminium park, which will become a key center for downstream aluminium product manufacturers. These initiatives are set to enhance Odisha’s strategic position in the global aluminium market, while also creating 200,000 jobs and promoting the growth of MSMEs across sectors such as automotive, power, construction, and logistics.
Anil Agarwal, Chairman of Vedanta Limited, commented, “Odisha has been a vital part of Vedanta’s journey, with its resources contributing significantly to India’s growth. This MoU marks a major step in driving large-scale industrial growth and socio-economic progress in the state. We are excited to continue our long-standing collaboration with the Government of Odisha, focusing on sustainable development, skill-building, and improving the quality of life for millions of people.”
Vedanta’s past investments have led to the creation of the world’s largest single-location aluminium smelter in Jharsuguda, along with a world-class alumina refinery in Lanjigarh, which have positioned Odisha as India’s aluminium hub. The company also operates FACOR, a leading ferro chrome producer in Bhadrak, and has a growing portfolio of mining operations in the state. These initiatives have contributed to the socio-economic development of the surrounding areas by building educational and healthcare facilities, skill centers, and modern Anganwadi centres, ensuring inclusive growth for Odisha’s communities.
With global demand for aluminium projected to double by 2030, this MoU further solidifies Odisha’s role as an industrial and economic leader, contributing to India’s goal of becoming a global manufacturing powerhouse, while strengthening Vedanta’s position as a key driver of Odisha’s growth and India’s industrial transformation.
