Vedanta Aluminium, India’s top aluminium producer, has earned global acclaim for its sustainability initiatives, achieving 2nd place in the prestigious S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) for the aluminium sector. With a notable score of 77, reflecting its adherence to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards, this milestone underscores the company’s dedication to responsible business practices.
The S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) is a renowned global benchmark that evaluates companies on their economic, environmental, and social performance. The S&P Global ESG Score gauges an organization’s approach to managing ESG risks, opportunities, and impacts. This comprehensive evaluation is informed by company disclosures, stakeholder and media analyses, and direct engagement through the CSA, providing a holistic view of corporate sustainability practices.

Vedanta Aluminium has made significant progress in embedding ESG principles across its operations since FY2021, achieving a 10.16% reduction in greenhouse gas intensity and introducing biodiversity and carbon reduction initiatives in Odisha in partnership with PwC India. Other milestones include becoming India’s first aluminium smelter to connect with the LME Passport platform, recycling over 15 billion liters of water in FY2024, and reducing emissions by utilizing biomass briquettes at its refinery.
By increasing renewable energy in its mix and developing carbon sinks, Vedanta Aluminium is contributing to a greener future while promoting aluminium as a sustainable, versatile material. As India’s largest aluminium producer, manufacturing over half of the country’s total output, the company continues to drive value-added applications in core industries.
