Vedanta Aluminium has launched a new skills development centre, ‘VeDakshata,’ in Bileimunda village, located in Odisha’s Sundargarh district, to provide placement-linked training for underprivileged youth. The initiative aims to empower aspiring individuals from Hemgir block in Sundargarh and Lakhanpur block in neighboring Jharsuguda district.
The facility, equipped with modern infrastructure, includes training rooms for various trades, a digital training room, a multipurpose hall, and separate hostels for boys and girls. Over 100 students have enrolled in the first batch, reflecting the community’s enthusiasm for the project.
At the inauguration ceremony, Dasarathi Saraboo, Sub-Collector of Sundargarh, praised Vedanta Aluminium’s efforts, calling the centre a transformative initiative for the region. He highlighted its potential to provide youth with industry-relevant skills and enhance economic progress.
Sunil Gupta, COO of Vedanta Aluminium, emphasized the company’s commitment to socio-economic development, stating, “The ‘VeDakshata’ centre underscores our dedication to equipping young individuals with market-ready skills, enabling them to achieve sustainable livelihoods and success.”
In collaboration with LearnNet Skills Limited, a venture of SchoolNet India Limited and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), the centre offers courses in sewing machine operations, electrical maintenance, and food and beverage services. The initiative aims to train 700 rural youth over the next three years, fostering self-reliant communities and creating pathways to better career opportunities.
