The company is driving socio-economic growth in rural areas of Odisha and Chhattisgarh by engaging with over 10,000 farmers. Vedanta Aluminium acknowledges the vital role of farmers in India’s growth and supports them through initiatives like Jeevika Samridhhi in Jharsuguda, Odisha, and Mor Jal Mor Maati in Korba, Chhattisgarh. These programs enhance infrastructure and farming practices. The company’s biodiesel trials offer farmers additional income opportunities from organic waste. These efforts align with the UN’s SDGs, targeting poverty reduction, economic growth, industrial innovation, and climate action.
At its Lanjigarh refinery in Odisha, Vedanta Aluminium has trialled biodiesel for commercial vehicles, promoting sustainable biofuel cultivation. Additionally, the company uses biomass briquettes, adhering to the Ministry of Power’s guidelines, to reduce agricultural waste burning and its environmental impact. These initiatives not only support environmental sustainability but also create new income opportunities for farmers, contributing to a circular economy.
Vedanta Aluminium is actively enhancing water infrastructure by installing tubewells, borewells, ponds, and tanks, ensuring year-round water access for communities. The company restored over 40 water bodies in FY23, with a significant 45% increase in community investment.
