Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, has become the first smelter in the country to integrate with the London Metal Exchange (LME) Passport platform. This achievement marks Vedanta as the fifth primary aluminium producer globally to implement a direct digital connection for submitting Certificates of Analysis (CoA) from its smelters to the LME Passport system.

The LME Passport platform streamlines operations by automating the CoA submission process, improving metal quality assurance, and enhancing transparency and traceability. This digital shift replaces paper-based processes, reducing errors and inefficiencies throughout the metal supply chain.

Commenting on this achievement, Sunil Gupta, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Vedanta Aluminium, stated, “The successful implementation of the LME Passport highlights our dedication to embracing cutting-edge digital technologies that uphold the highest global standards in metal quality assurance. This initiative reinforces our position as a leader in the aluminium industry, ensuring that our customers benefit from top-quality products delivered with full transparency.”

The London Metal Exchange (LME), the global center for industrial metal trading, sets the benchmark price for aluminium worldwide. It has mandated that all primary aluminium smelters digitize their Certificate of Analysis (CoA) submission processes by October 2024.

Vedanta Aluminium’s proactive adoption of the LME Passport demonstrates its readiness to meet these evolving standards, enhancing its reputation for innovation, operational excellence, and sustainability. This achievement not only reflects Vedanta’s commitment to quality and transparency but also strengthens India’s role in the global aluminium market.

As India’s largest aluminium producer, Vedanta Aluminium produced 2.37 million tonnes in FY24, accounting for over half of the country’s output. The company is a leader in value-added aluminium products, which are critical to various core industries.

Vedanta Aluminium also ranked first globally in the aluminium sector in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2023, a testament to its pioneering sustainable practices. With state-of-the-art smelters, an alumina refinery, and power plants across India, Vedanta Aluminium is driving the future of aluminium as a key material for a greener world.
