Vedanta Aluminium, India’s top aluminium producer, has appointed Ravi Paliwal as CEO of Ash Management. In this role, Paliwal will oversee ash management operations, using technology and processes to improve resource efficiency and find new uses for ash, a by-product of thermal power generation. His responsibilities also include ash management for Vedanta’s power businesses, such as Talwandi Sabo Power Plant, Meenakshi Energy, Athena Power, and Hindustan Zinc Limited.

Paliwal brings over 27 years of industry experience, having previously served as Senior Vice President of Contract, Commercials, and Materials at Bajaj Energy. He has also held senior positions at JSW Energy and Nabha Power (Larsen & Toubro), with expertise in supply chain management, vendor development, and service contracts.

John Slaven, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, welcomed Paliwal, stating that his experience will drive excellence in ash management, aligning with the company’s sustainability goals, including generating value from byproducts like fly ash and increasing the renewable energy mix to 30% by 2030.

Paliwal expressed his enthusiasm for the new role, emphasizing his commitment to promoting a circular economy and driving sustainability in operations by exploring new uses for ash. Vedanta Aluminium operates India’s largest portfolio of captive power plants, making effective ash management essential. The company is focused on innovative applications for ash, such as in the cement industry, brick-making, and road construction. Vedanta has partnerships to supply fly ash to cement manufacturers for producing low-carbon cement and is exploring other circular economy initiatives.

Recognized as the world’s most sustainable aluminium producer by the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) 2023, Vedanta Aluminium is working towards its Net Zero target by 2050 through reducing its carbon footprint, increasing the use of renewable energy, and transitioning to low-carbon energy sources like biofuels.

Vedanta Aluminium, a business of Vedanta Limited, is India’s largest aluminium producer, manufacturing over half of the country’s aluminium with 2.37 million tonnes in FY24. The company leads in value-added aluminium products for core industries and aims to drive the emerging applications of aluminium as the ‘Metal of the Future’ for a greener tomorrow.
