Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, has marked a significant global achievement by delivering its first Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) Chain of Custody (CoC)-certified aluminium shipment to Capral Aluminium, Australia’s leading extruder and distributor of aluminium products. This key development highlights Vedanta’s commitment to responsible production and reinforces its role in advancing sustainable aluminium value chains worldwide.
After receiving ASI CoC certification in late 2024, Vedanta Aluminium underwent a two-year process to align its operations with the initiative’s stringent sustainability standards. The ASI CoC certification guarantees that each phase of aluminium production meets high environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria, from the responsible sourcing of raw materials to energy-efficient and ethical manufacturing practices. With the increasing demand for sustainable materials, Vedanta’s ASI-certified aluminium is poised to support industries making environmentally conscious decisions.
Alok Ranjan, Chief Marketing Officer at Vedanta Aluminium, shared his thoughts on the achievement: “Sustainability is a cornerstone of our business philosophy, and achieving ASI CoC certification marks a significant milestone in our journey toward responsible aluminium production. We are honored to provide Capral Aluminium with certified material, reinforcing our shared vision for a more sustainable and transparent aluminium industry. This achievement underscores our ability to meet the growing ESG demands of global markets and solidifies Vedanta Aluminium’s position as a preferred supplier of responsibly sourced aluminium.”
Luke Hawkins, General Manager of Industrial and Supply Chain at Capral Aluminium, added, “Vedanta Aluminium’s dedication to sustainability through ASI CoC certification is commendable. This partnership strengthens our supply of responsibly sourced aluminium and supports Australia’s manufacturing sector in making sustainable material choices. As demand for low-carbon aluminium increases, collaborations like this are vital in shaping the future of ethical aluminium sourcing.”
Vedanta Aluminium’s ASI CoC certification is part of its larger commitment to reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable manufacturing. The company has also introduced Restora, one of the lowest-carbon primary aluminium brands globally, and Restora Ultra, an ultra-low-carbon aluminium product, offering innovative solutions for industries looking to minimize their environmental impact.
As India’s largest aluminium producer, Vedanta Aluminium manufactures over half of the country’s aluminium production, reaching 2.42 million tonnes in FY25. The company is a leader in value-added aluminium products essential for industries like automotive, aerospace, and construction. In the 2024 S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment, Vedanta Aluminium ranked second in the aluminium sector, reflecting its leadership in sustainable development practices. With advanced aluminium smelters, an alumina refinery, and power plants in India, Vedanta Aluminium continues to champion the use of aluminium as a key material for a greener, more sustainable future.
