On the occasion of World Day for Safety and Health at Work, Vedanta Limited (NSE: VEDL) outlined several measures it has implemented to enhance safety across its operations using artificial intelligence (AI) and digital tools. These include AI-based monitoring systems, drone inspections, fatigue detection technologies, smart helmets, and remote operation systems.

The 2025 observance of World Day for Safety and Health at Work focuses on the effects of digitalization and AI on occupational safety. Vedanta’s initiatives align with this theme, aiming to improve safety outcomes while adapting to new technologies in industrial environments.

In its zinc operations, Vedanta introduced India’s first virtual reality (VR)-based winder training system, used to simulate shaft operations for worker training. A VR-enabled underground vehicle simulator was also implemented to enhance mining safety. In the aluminium division, drones are used for pre-extraction inspections.

The oil and gas segment uses an AI-driven surveillance system that reduces manual monitoring by 80%. Vedanta is also working with startup Jarsh Safety, known for wearable technologies designed to mitigate heat stress and improve communications in high-risk environments.

Vedanta promotes a shared responsibility for safety across its workforce, with structured oversight through safety committees and a “Community of Practice” approach. Senior leadership, including business heads, are expected to lead by example on safety standards and compliance.

Vedanta continues to conduct regular training programs in fire safety, rescue operations, and workplace health. The company has also introduced India’s first all-women mine rescue and firefighting teams. Medical support is available at all major locations, including regular health check-ups, mental health services, and access to BALCO Medical Centre for advanced treatment.

The company encourages physical wellness through events such as the Vedanta Half Marathons and maintains sports and fitness facilities at its sites. Beyond internal operations, Vedanta extends its safety efforts to nearby communities through training in fire prevention, road safety, first aid, and self-defence.

Vedanta Group operates a diverse set of businesses in minerals, energy, and technology, and is among the world’s top producers of zinc, silver, and aluminium. The company also holds significant positions in oil and gas production, power generation, and has announced expansions into rare earths, renewables, and semiconductors.

With operations across India, Africa, and Asia, Vedanta aims to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 or earlier. Its community development efforts, led by the Anil Agarwal Foundation, include a commitment of ₹5,000 crore over five years to support initiatives such as the NandGhar project. Vedanta Limited is listed on both the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange and has received recognition for its corporate governance, sustainability, and workplace culture.
