In a significant milestone, Vedanta Aluminium has become the sole aluminium manufacturer in India to comply with the government’s Quality Control Order for aluminium wire rods and rolled products, as mandated by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).
The new regulation, which requires BIS certification for all aluminium wire rods, sheets, plates, and strips sold in India, takes effect today. This certification is applicable to products produced at Vedanta’s BALCO facility in Chhattisgarh and its Jharsuguda unit in Odisha.
The Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry, along with the Ministry of Mines, introduced the quality control regulation on August 31, 2023, with a deadline of September 26, 2024, for mandatory BIS certification. By obtaining this certification ahead of schedule, Vedanta Aluminium underscores its dedication to superior quality and solidifies its leadership in the aluminium sector.
Vedanta Aluminium’s BIS certification covers a broad spectrum of products, including 12 mm wire rods, rolled sheets, conductor plates, rolled plates, EC ingots, alloy ingots, and primary ingots, serving various engineering and industrial applications. With seven BIS certifications spanning 17 products, the company gains a distinct advantage in both domestic and global markets.
