Vardhman Special Steels Limited (VSSL), a leading manufacturer of special and alloy steels in India, has announced the approval of a new state-of-the-art steel forging unit in Punjab, marking a significant milestone in the company’s growth and diversification strategy. The decision was approved by the Board of Directors at its recent meeting and reflects VSSL’s commitment to expanding its value-added product portfolio and strengthening its presence in the domestic and international forging markets.

The proposed forging unit will cater to key sectors such as automotive, engineering, railways, defence, and industrial equipment, where demand for high-quality forged components continues to grow steadily. The new facility is planned to be developed with advanced forging technology, modern heat treatment processes, and stringent quality control systems to meet global standards.

It will enable VSSL to offer integrated solutions by combining its existing expertise in special steel manufacturing with downstream forging capabilities, thereby enhancing customer value and operational efficiencies. The project is expected to generate significant employment opportunities, both direct and indirect, contributing to regional economic development in Punjab.

VSSL also emphasized that the new unit will be developed with a strong focus on environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, and responsible manufacturing practices, in line with the company’s ESG objectives. With this investment, Vardhman Special Steels aims to enhance its competitiveness, reduce dependence on external forging suppliers, and improve supply chain reliability for its customers. The forging unit is expected to be implemented in phases, with commercial production targeted after the completion of statutory approvals and project execution timelines.

Commenting on the expansion, Sachit Jain, Chairman & Managing Director, Vardhman Special Steels Ltd, said, “Over the years, we have continually assessed opportunities to enter the forgings segment in collaboration with our partner, Aichi Steel Corporation, which possesses the largest forging capacity in the automotive domain and brings unique expertise and advanced technologies from Japan. With growing customer demand, improved market visibility, and our internal capabilities now well aligned, I am pleased to announce that we are moving forward with the establishment of a forging and machining unit in Ludhiana.”

Mr Jain added,”Our foray into steel forgings represents a natural extension of our steelmaking operations and positions us as a more integrated and comprehensive partner to automotive OEMs. This strategic investment enhances our value proposition and accelerates our next phase of growth by expanding into higher value-added segments.”
