Valeo, a global leader in advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS), has officially opened a new manufacturing facility in Waigang Industrial Park, located in the Jiading District of Shanghai, China. This new plant marks a significant milestone in Valeo’s growth in China, enhancing the company’s local manufacturing capacity and solidifying its position as a leader in ADAS both in China and globally.

Christophe Périllat, CEO of Valeo, commented, “China plays a crucial role as a global innovation hub, particularly in software-defined vehicles, ADAS, and electrification. With Shanghai at the forefront of these trends, this new production site is a strategic step in strengthening our innovation capabilities and supporting the transformation of China’s automotive industry.”

The new facility spans 30,000 square meters and will focus on the research, development, and production of various ADAS technologies, including LiDAR sensors crucial for autonomous driving (Level 3 and above) and computing products such as domain and zonal controllers. These innovations are part of Valeo’s efforts to support the software-defined vehicle (SDV) revolution, advancing autonomous driving capabilities and reshaping the in-vehicle experience for smarter, more sustainable mobility.

China has become a vital center for innovation for Valeo, hosting three integrated R&D and manufacturing centers in Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Shanghai, along with an independent R&D facility in Wuhan. In January 2025, the Shenzhen site was officially recognized as a “Lighthouse Factory” by the World Economic Forum and McKinsey & Company for its advanced manufacturing practices.

With more than 18,000 employees in China, including 4,500 engineers focused on technology and innovation, Valeo continues to invest heavily in the region. Since entering the Chinese market in 1994, the company has consistently expanded its local production capabilities, embodying the principle of “Be Chinese in China” to foster local innovation and manufacturing. The new Shanghai facility underscores Valeo’s commitment to sustained investment in China, further enhancing its production and innovation capacities in the country.
