Valeo, a global leader in automotive technology, and ROHM Semiconductor, a prominent semiconductor manufacturer, have joined forces to develop next-generation power modules for electric motor inverters. The collaboration will focus on enhancing the performance, efficiency, and reliability of power electronics, crucial components in electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs).
As an initial step, ROHM will supply its advanced 2-in-1 Silicon Carbide (SiC) moulded module, TRCDRIVE pack™, to Valeo for integration into future powertrain solutions. By leveraging Valeo’s expertise in mechatronics, thermal management, and software, combined with ROHM’s innovative power modules, the partnership aims to create high-performance solutions that support the global shift towards sustainable and electrified mobility.
Valeo is committed to making electrified mobility accessible across a wide range of vehicle types, from e-bikes to passenger cars and heavy-duty e-trucks. The collaboration with ROHM builds on a partnership that began in 2022, focusing on improving the efficiency and thermal management of motor inverters. This will lead to higher energy efficiency, reduced heat generation, and enhanced reliability, thanks to optimized cooling and SiC packaging.
“This partnership represents a major step forward for Valeo’s Power Division in delivering cutting-edge and highly efficient power electronics,” said Xavier Dupont, CEO of Valeo Power Division. “Together with ROHM, we aim to set new industry benchmarks for high-voltage inverters and accelerate the transition to affordable, efficient electric mobility.”
Wolfram Harnack, President of ROHM Semiconductor GmbH, stated, “We are proud to collaborate with Valeo, a leading automotive supplier, to advance powertrain technology. Our TRCDRIVE pack™ offers high power density and improved efficiency, contributing to the development of innovative and efficient powertrains.”
The first project from this partnership is expected to begin production in early 2026, with a focus on downsizing and improving efficiency in Valeo’s next-generation inverters for EVs and PHEVs. This initiative addresses the growing demand for extended range, faster charging, and high-performance, cost-effective inverters for battery electric vehicles.
