VA Tech Wabag announced on Friday that it has secured a major contract valued at $317 million (approximately ₹2,700 crore) from the Saudi Water Authority (SWA). In a regulatory filing, the company highlighted that its strong track record and advanced technological proposal played a key role in winning the prestigious contract for the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning (EPCC) of a 300 Million Litre per Day (MLD) Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) Desalination Plant in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi Water Authority, formerly known as the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC), is tasked with regulating and monitoring water sector activities to promote sustainability and achieve the objectives of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. The SWA currently manages over 40 desalination plants producing more than 11 million cubic meters of water daily, along with over 139 ground and surface water purification stations producing an additional 4 million cubic meters per day.
The contract involves the design, engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of the 300 MLD desalination plant. The facility will be constructed on a greenfield site located on the west coast of Saudi Arabia, south of Yanbu al-Bahr, facing the Red Sea. The project is expected to be completed within 30 months.
