VA Tech Wabag announced on January 1 that it has been awarded a ₹145 crore contract by Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd (CPCL). The project involves the design, engineering, supply, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of desalinated water pipelines connecting CPCL’s Manali Refinery and its desalination plant in Kattupalli. The project is scheduled to be completed within 12 months.
“CPCL has been a valued customer for Wabag, and we are pleased to be entrusted with this critical project,” said S. Natrajan, Head of Sales and Marketing, India Cluster. In other updates, VA Tech Wabag recently secured a €78 million (approximately ₹700 crore) contract from Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company in Zambia. This project entails the construction of two advanced wastewater treatment plants with capacities of 54 MLD and 19 MLD in Ngwerere and Chunga, Zambia. The EPC phase will span 36 months, followed by 24 months of operation and maintenance to ensure sustainable performance.
Separately, the company disclosed last month that its $317 million (approximately ₹2,700 crore) order for a 300 MLD Mega Sea Water Desalination Plant in Saudi Arabia had been canceled. According to the Saudi Water Authority, the tender was canceled due to internal administrative reasons. Wabag is currently engaging with the authority to gain further clarity. The Saudi project was intended to include the design, engineering, supply, construction, and commissioning of a large-scale desalination facility on the west coast of the Kingdom near Yanbu al-Bahr.
