Va Tech Wabag, a leading Indian multinational group specializing in water technology solutions, has secured a significant repeat order worth approximately $49 million from Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL), supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The order encompasses the design, construction, and operation of three c (WWTP) in Nepal, located in Sallaghari, Kodku, and Dhobighat. These plants will collectively treat approximately 69 million liters per day (MLD) of wastewater and are slated for completion over a period of 24 months. Following construction, Va Tech Wabag will undertake the operation and maintenance of the plants for a duration of five years.
In a regulatory filing, Va Tech Wabag highlighted that its established track record with the client, combined with a technically superior bid, played a pivotal role in securing the order against stiff international competition. This achievement further solidifies Va Tech Wabag’s leadership position in the South Asian region.
The implementation of these WWTPs is expected to have a significant positive impact on the environment and local ecosystems. By treating wastewater before discharge, the plants will prevent the contamination of rivers such as Bagmati, Manohara, and Hanumante, thereby enhancing water quality and preserving the natural habitat.
As part of the project, Va Tech Wabag will also deploy innovative technologies to generate green fuel, specifically biogas, through the activated sludge treatment process. This renewable energy source will be utilized to power the operation of the WWTPs, resulting in a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and optimization of operational costs.
Commenting on the repeat order, Arvind Dullu, Regional Business Head for SAARC and South East Asia at Va Tech Wabag, expressed gratitude for the client’s trust and confidence in the company’s technical expertise and execution capabilities. Dullu emphasized Va Tech Wabag’s unwavering commitment to excellence and sustainability, underscoring the significance of the project in strengthening the company’s presence in Nepal and the broader South Asian region.
The award of this prestigious contract underscores Va Tech Wabag’s continued dedication to delivering innovative and sustainable water management solutions to address the evolving needs of communities and industries worldwide.
