In a recent outreach effort, UST provided essential equipment to 120 forest support staff working in the Hediyala and AM Gudi zones of the Bandipur Forest Range, Karnataka. The recipients, many from tribal communities, play a critical role in protecting the region’s wildlife and natural ecosystems under often challenging conditions.
The gear kits included durable jackets, raincoats, boots, binoculars, and lightweight backpacks. To ease their daily routines in remote forest areas, reusable water bottles and tiffin carriers were also included. This effort is part of UST’s broader community support initiative, which has reached six forest ranges in the Bandipur area over the past three years.
Leading the initiative was Kirankumar Doreswamy, Vice President and Center Head at the company’s Bengaluru office, with support from the local CSR team, including Aditya Kumar, Manu KolaraRudraiah, Nidhi Garg, Nitin Narayan Deshik, RajivaLochanSeshadri, Santhosh Shetty, Swetha Srinivas, Vikas Raju, and VishwasShivashankar.
Smita Sharma, who manages the company’s global CSR programs, emphasized the importance of supporting those who protect India’s forests daily. “These frontline workers, many of whom are from indigenous communities, are instrumental in maintaining ecological balance and safeguarding biodiversity,” she said. “Our team is proud to stand behind their work.”
Over the past five years, UST has carried out several similar projects in the Bandipur and Kabini forest regions. In 2021, safety kits—comprising boots, bags, jackets, and torches—were distributed to 60 staff. In 2022, the company helped upgrade the Sargur Forest School under its ‘Adopt a School’ initiative, benefiting over 550 tribal students through improved classroom infrastructure.
Most recently in 2024, another 100 forest guards and anti-poaching personnel in DB Kuppe received rain gear and night-vision equipment to support their patrolling efforts. These programs reflect UST’s ongoing efforts to support environmental protection and strengthen the communities closely tied to forest conservation.
