UST, an AI and technology transformation solutions company, has completed the acquisition of a majority stake in Italdesign from the Audi Group, bringing together Italdesign’s longstanding expertise in automotive design and engineering with UST’s capabilities in artificial intelligence, digital engineering, software-defined vehicles and technology transformation.

The partnership comes as the automotive industry undergoes a fundamental shift towards software-defined, connected and AI-enabled vehicles. By combining design, engineering, software and artificial intelligence capabilities, UST and Italdesign aim to help automotive manufacturers accelerate innovation and address the increasing complexity of next-generation mobility solutions, from initial concept development through production.

Italdesign has nearly six decades of experience in automotive design, vehicle engineering and product development. Its multidisciplinary capabilities have contributed to the creation of some of the world’s most recognised vehicles. UST brings complementary expertise in AI, digital engineering, software-defined vehicle technologies and digital ecosystem development. Together, the companies intend to create new opportunities for manufacturers to develop intelligent and connected products while maintaining the importance of human creativity and design excellence.

Vijay Padmanabhan, Chief Financial Officer, UST, said the investment in Italdesign was driven not only by its technical capabilities but also by its people, heritage and reputation for converting innovative concepts into world-class products. He said the combination of Italdesign’s design and engineering strengths with UST’s digital engineering, AI and transformation capabilities would create a platform for shaping the future of mobility.

Gilroy Mathew, Chief Operating Officer, UST, said automotive customers increasingly require partners capable of integrating design, engineering, software and AI. The combined capabilities of the two organisations are expected to help customers move from concept to production more efficiently while preserving creativity and engineering quality.

Antonio Casu, Chief Executive Officer, Italdesign, said the company brings nearly 60 years of automotive experience and will continue operating under the Italdesign name while maintaining its values, distinctive competencies and multidisciplinary approach. He added that Italdesign would benefit from UST’s global scale, digital engineering capabilities, AI expertise and international customer relationships.

Headquartered in the United States, UST has operated since 1999 and works with companies worldwide on technology-led transformation. The company has more than 30,000 employees across over 30 countries and provides AI-driven digital solutions, engineering, research and development, proprietary platforms and technology services.
