The US Army has awarded Lockheed Martin a $9.8 billion contract to produce 1,970 Patriot Advanced Capability-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (PAC-3 MSE) interceptors along with associated hardware. This agreement represents the largest contract in the history of Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control and underscores strong global demand and trust in the proven interceptor.
“PAC-3 MSE’s recent combat performance has reinforced its position as an essential capability for the U.S. and allied nations,” said Jason Reynolds, vice president and general manager of Integrated Air and Missile Defense at Lockheed Martin. “This record-setting contract ensures we can deliver advanced missile defense solutions at scale, providing our customers with the protection they need to safeguard critical assets.”
Lockheed Martin has already been ramping up production capacity to meet increasing demand, with delivery of more than 600 interceptors projected for 2025—the highest annual output to date. This milestone comes after the company made substantial early investments to expand manufacturing nearly two years before the formal contract award.
The PAC-3 MSE interceptor is designed to defeat incoming threats through direct body-to-body impact, delivering far greater kinetic energy than traditional blast-fragmentation methods. The system has been proven in combat against ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, hypersonic threats, and other airborne targets. To date, 17 partner nations, including the United States, have selected PAC-3 to strengthen their air and missile defense capabilities. As global security challenges evolve, Lockheed Martin continues to deliver ready-now, combat-proven defense systems that enable the U.S. and allied forces to stay ahead of emerging threats.
