Universal Robots (UR), the global leader in collaborative robotics, has introduced its most advanced and fastest collaborative robot (cobot) to date—the UR15. Officially unveiled at the Automate trade show in Detroit, the UR15 is now available for order, with shipments scheduled to commence in June.
Engineered for high-speed performance, the UR15 features a top tool center point (TCP) speed of 5 meters per second, representing a significant step forward in collaborative automation. With this innovation, Universal Robots delivers up to 30% faster cycle times for pick-and-place applications, contributing to enhanced productivity and cost efficiency across a wide range of industries. Despite its increased speed, the UR15 maintains the company’s signature compact footprint and lightweight design, making it ideal for integration in space-constrained environments.
According to Tero Tolonen, Chief Product Officer at Universal Robots “For two decades, Universal Robots has driven the evolution of collaborative automation. The UR15 sets a new benchmark by delivering high-speed performance while preserving precision, safety, and integration flexibility. This product will support a broad spectrum of applications and enable our partners to develop new, high-performance automation solutions.”
The UR15 incorporates OptiMove, UR’s next-generation motion control system, which optimizes trajectory smoothness and positional accuracy—even under high-speed and high-payload conditions. This allows for consistent, repeatable movements suited for demanding tasks. The UR15 operates with both PolyScope 5 and PolyScope X—Universal Robots’ proprietary software platforms—and is fully compatible with artificial intelligence development. It integrates seamlessly with the UR AI Accelerator, a toolkit developed in collaboration with NVIDIA. The AI Accelerator utilizes NVIDIA Isaac’s CUDA-accelerated libraries and models and operates on the NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin system-on-module.
At the Automate 2025 event, a demonstration by 3D Infotech highlights the potential of AI-enhanced automation through a quality inspection application powered by the UR15 and UR AI Accelerator. The UR15 features a payload capacity of 15 kilograms, which can be extended to 17.5 kilograms in wrist-down configurations—making it well-suited for demanding applications such as palletizing. Designed for maximum adaptability, the UR15 addresses the performance requirements of multiple industries. Its compact footprint and full-range motion allow seamless operation in tight production spaces, particularly beneficial in sectors such as automotive, metalworking, and electronics manufacturing.
In the automotive sector, the UR15 is ideal for machine tending, bin picking, and inspection tasks within space-constrained environments. For metal and machining applications, the robot’s IP65 rating ensures reliable operation in harsh conditions while offering high payload handling with simplified integration. In electronics and technology production, the UR15 provides cleanroom compatibility, precise motion control, and smooth coordination with autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) and automated guided vehicles (AGVs).
Tero Tolonen, Chief Product Officer, emphasized that the design and development of the UR15 have been driven by the practical needs of customers across a wide range of industries. The new cobot reflects a commitment to delivering flexible, scalable, and high-performance automation solutions tailored to modern manufacturing challenges and opportunities.
The UR15 expands Universal Robots’ high-performance UR Series, which also includes the UR20 and UR30 models—each engineered to meet the demands of applications requiring higher payloads and advanced certifications. In parallel, the company has introduced updates to its trusted e-Series: the UR5e has been enhanced with a payload upgrade to 7.5 kilograms and renamed UR7e, while the UR10e, already capable of handling 12.5 kilograms, will now be known as UR12e. These changes reflect a strategic evolution in Universal Robots’ product lineup, aimed at providing greater clarity and enhanced capabilities. These updates reflect clearer naming conventions while maintaining the proven performance and adaptability associated with the e-Series.
