Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines, Satish Chandra Dubey, recently inaugurated 51 rooftop solar power plants belonging to Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) via remote access from Ranchi. This initiative is part of the ongoing Special Campaign 4.0 and represents a remarkable step forward in the company’s commitment to fostering a greener and more self-sufficient India. The total capacity of these solar installations stands at an impressive 2.428 Mega Watts (MW), highlighting BCCL’s dedication to renewable energy.
During the inauguration ceremony, Minister Satish Chandra Dubey commended BCCL for its commendable efforts in promoting sustainable energy solutions. He emphasized that the installation of rooftop solar power plants by BCCL serves as an excellent example of effectively utilizing previously unused building spaces. By harnessing the sun’s energy, BCCL is setting a standard for other organizations aiming to integrate green technology into their operations.
Samiran Dutta, the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of BCCL, expressed his excitement regarding the company’s advancements in renewable energy initiatives. He remarked that this landmark achievement signifies BCCL’s unwavering commitment not only to fulfill the nation’s requirements for coking coal but also to ensure that the path forward is both sustainable and environmentally friendly.
He conveyed that BCCL takes great pride in its contribution to India’s renewable energy mission, asserting that these 51 solar power plants embody the company’s long-term vision for a greener and more sustainable future. Senior officers from BCCL were also present at the event, reflecting the organization’s dedication to this important milestone.
BCCL, a vital subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL) and the largest producer of coking coal in India, has played a pivotal role in advancing the “Mission Coking Coal” under the visionary Aatmnirbhar Bharat initiative. Currently, BCCL has successfully installed and commissioned 1.66 MW of Rooftop Solar Plants across various locations.
In addition to the newly inaugurated 2.428 MW Rooftop Plant, BCCL has plans to install a 3 MW Rooftop Solar Plant during the financial year 2024-25. Furthermore, the company is making significant strides in ground-mounted solar projects, with a 20 MW facility currently being installed at the Dugdha Washery, slated for completion by 2024. Additionally, a 25 MW ground-mounted solar project at Bhojudih Coal Washery is on track for completion by March 2025.
