Umiya Buildcon Limited, formerly known as MRO-TEK Realty Limited, today introduced its new MRO-TEK CORNUS Series of 1G Ethernet Switches, developed entirely in India to meet growing demand for secure, high-performance networking infrastructure. The launch coincides with the anniversary of the Government’s Make in India initiative, reflecting the company’s commitment to fostering indigenous innovation and supporting national goals for self-reliant telecom and networking solutions.
Built with over 65% local components, the CORNUS switches meet the highest Class 1 classification under DPIIT’s Preference to Make in India (PMI) guidelines. The CORNUS Family comprises fully managed Layer-2 Gigabit switches, available in multiple configurations—from 4 to 26 electrical Gigabit Ethernet (GE) ports and 2 to 6 fiber GE ports. Select models also support Power over Ethernet (PoE), providing 15W or 30W per port for powering devices such as IP cameras and wireless access points.
The CORNUS Family of switches is built to serve a wide range of critical sectors that demand secure and high-performance networking. These include telecom operators and internet service providers (ISPs), public sector organizations, and industrial enterprises. The switches are also well-suited for railway signaling systems compliant with RDSO specifications, traffic surveillance networks, and large-scale public Wi-Fi infrastructure. Their versatility makes them ideal for bandwidth delivery, media conversion, and industrial automation applications.
At the heart of these switches lies MRO-OS, an indigenously developed operating system created entirely by Umiya Buildcon’s in-house R&D and product development teams. MRO-OS supports a dual-stack IPv4/IPv6 management architecture and integrates advanced Layer-2 networking protocols, including VLAN, STP/RSTP/MSTP, ERPS, IGMP, LACP, QoS, and ACL. This robust software foundation ensures reliable performance across complex network environments.
To provide ease of use and adaptability, the switches come equipped with multiple management interfaces. These include Web GUI, Telnet, SNMP (versions 1, 2, and 3), Syslog, and TFTP—offering network administrators flexibility and control across a variety of deployment scenarios.
All CORNUS switches are designed and manufactured in India, using Microchip and Realtek System-on-Chip (SoC) platforms. The hardware is assembled at Umiya Buildcon’s advanced SMT facility in Electronics City, Bengaluru. These products are TEC-certified under the Department of Telecommunications’ MTCTE framework, designated as Trusted Products on the Trusted Telecom Portal (overseen by the NSCS), and protected under Indian IPR regulations—ensuring compliance, reliability, and security across both hardware and software layers.
Umiya Buildcon is also in the final stages of development for 10G and 40G switches, with the 10G product currently under testing. These next-gen devices will run on the same MRO-OS firmware, enabling consistent performance and seamless upgrade paths.
“The launch of the CORNUS 1G series marks an important step in our mission to deliver secure, reliable, and locally built networking products,” said Aniruddha Mehta, Chairman and Managing Director, Umiya Buildcon Limited. “Unveiling it on the Make in India anniversary underscores our commitment to India’s technological self-reliance.”
Group Captain CS Krishnadas (Retd), CEO of Umiya Buildcon, added, “The CORNUS switches are a product of deep R&D and in-house engineering. These solutions will enhance connectivity across India’s critical infrastructure while reinforcing our capabilities in indigenous telecom development.”
