UltraTech Cement Limited, the Aditya Birla Group’s cement flagship, plans to expand its electric vehicle fleet to more than 600 heavy-duty electric trucks by December 2026 as part of its efforts to reduce emissions from logistics operations. The company has signed service contracts with leading electric vehicle prime mover manufacturers, including Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, IPLTech, Energy in Motion and Sany, along with their subsidiaries and other third-party logistics providers, for the deployment of electric trucks.

The planned fleet of more than 600 electric trucks will transport around five million tonnes of clinker and other key materials every year. The vehicles will operate across Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Odisha. Once fully operational, the fleet is expected to reduce net annual carbon dioxide emissions by more than 117,000 tonnes. The shift to electric transportation will also displace the equivalent of around 39 million litres of diesel consumption every year.

“UltraTech is expanding sustainability beyond its plants by adopting greener logistics solutions. This large-scale transition to green logistics underscores our focus on decarbonising every link of our value chain and supports our commitment to achieving Net Zero,” said K C Jhanwar, Managing Director, UltraTech Cement Limited.

It currently operates more than 850 trucks under its green logistics programme, including both CNG and electric vehicles.

The company said its electrification programme covers different parts of its supply chain, from mine-to-plant movement to the transportation of clinker and other materials between plants.UltraTech has a grey cement capacity of more than 200 MTPA in India and operates a large logistics network to support its manufacturing and distribution operations.
