UltraTech Cement Limited, the world’s largest cement company by sales volume and capacity outside China, has announced the deployment of 45 electric heavy-duty trucks for clinker transportation in northern India. Implemented in partnership with Energy In Motion (EIM), the initiative marks one of the largest electric heavy-duty trucking deployments in the region and reinforces UltraTech’s commitment to sustainable logistics and low-carbon operations.
The electric fleet will transport clinker from UltraTech’s Kotputli Cement Works in Rajasthan to its grinding units at Dadri Cement Works and Sikandarabad Cement Works in the Delhi-NCR region. Covering a lead distance of approximately 250 kilometres, the route traverses Rajasthan, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, demonstrating the growing viability of long-haul electric freight movement within India’s industrial supply chains.
The deployment follows the execution of a transport service agreement involving UltraTech, Energy In Motion, and a logistics service provider. Each vehicle in the fleet has a carrying capacity of 55 tonnes, enabling large-scale movement of clinker while significantly reducing the environmental impact associated with conventional diesel-powered transportation.
The initiative is expected to reduce more than 8,900 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually and eliminate the consumption of approximately 2.9 million litres of diesel each year. The project aligns with India’s broader objectives of advancing clean mobility solutions, reducing dependence on fossil fuels, and accelerating the transition toward zero-emission commercial transportation.
Speaking on the development, K C Jhanwar, Managing Director, UltraTech Cement Limited, said, “India’s transition toward cleaner and more energy-secure transportation systems requires decisive action from industry leaders. This deployment demonstrates our commitment to building a future-ready logistics network while supporting the nation’s sustainability ambitions. Decarbonising transportation is a critical component of our broader environmental strategy, and electric mobility offers a scalable pathway to reducing emissions across the value chain.”
UltraTech has consistently been at the forefront of sustainable logistics innovation within the cement sector. The company introduced CNG-powered trucks under its Green Logistics initiative in 2021, followed by LNG-powered vehicles in 2022 and electric trucks in 2024. Through ongoing collaboration with logistics partners, UltraTech continues to accelerate the shift away from diesel-based transportation.
As of FY26, the company operates a green fleet comprising 638 CNG trucks, 32 LNG trucks, and 89 electric trucks across its manufacturing network. The addition of 45 new electric heavy-duty vehicles further strengthens this portfolio and underscores UltraTech’s commitment to integrating sustainability into every aspect of its operations.
