UltraTech Cement has announced a new capital investment of ₹10,255 crore aimed at increasing its cement production capacity by 22.8 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), which includes planned expansion through its subsidiary, India Cements Limited. This proposal was approved during the company’s board meeting held today and will involve a mix of new plants and upgrades to existing facilities.
The expansion will raise UltraTech’s total cement production capacity to 240.76 MTPA once completed, further strengthening its position in the global cement sector. Commenting on the development, Aditya Birla Group Chairman, Kumar Mangalam Birla, said “India has emerged as a key player in the global cement industry, and UltraTech has been at the forefront of this growth. This investment follows more than ₹50,000 crore deployed in the last five years and reflects continued confidence in India’s economic outlook and its infrastructure-led development strategy.”
He added, “Strategic capital investment plays a vital role in energising industry ecosystems, supporting job creation, and strengthening the foundation for long-term growth. With this move, we are further aligning with India’s growth priorities and helping drive the country’s progress toward its 2047 development goals.”
Over the last ten years, UltraTech has expanded its operations significantly, adding over 65 MTPA of capacity, primarily through acquisitions. Today, the company is the world’s second-largest cement producer by capacity and the top player by volume, excluding China.
The new facilities are expected to commence commercial production in phases starting in FY28. This expansion will contribute to meeting rising domestic and international demand for cement, especially as India accelerates infrastructure development across multiple sectors.
UltraTech Cement Ltd, part of the Aditya Birla Group, is a leading building materials company with a total grey cement capacity of 192.26 MTPA and a white cement and wall care putty capacity of 2.7 MTPA.
