UltraTech Cement Ltd has announced a boost in its production capacity by 1.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) as part of its efficiency improvement and capacity expansion initiatives. The company informed stock exchanges on March 19, 2025, that it has identified several opportunities to enhance production at various locations, helping to streamline operations. As part of this expansion, UltraTech has added 0.8 MTPA at its Hirmi unit in Chhattisgarh and 0.4 MTPA at its Roorkee unit in Uttarakhand.
The Hirmi unit is an integrated facility, while the Roorkee unit is focused on grinding. With these additions, UltraTech Cement’s total domestic grey cement production capacity now stands at 178.86 MTPA. The company’s international capacity is 5.4 MTPA, bringing its total global capacity to 184.26 MTPA, reinforcing UltraTech’s position as India’s leading grey cement manufacturer.
At 11:50 AM on March 19, 2025, UltraTech Cement shares were trading flat, with a slight increase of 0.9%, priced at ₹10,788.6 on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). The stock reached an intraday high of ₹10,799 earlier in the session.
In a recent presentation to investors, UltraTech stated that it is targeting an internal rate of return (IRR) of nearly 25% and aims for a Return on Capital Employed (RoCE) of over 20%. Additionally, the company disclosed that its focus remains on a strategic mix of 60% wires and 40% cables.
UltraTech also clarified that it is not pursuing new business opportunities and does not anticipate any significant pricing pressure affecting the industry. This expansion is part of a one-off strategy to capture a larger share of the customer market.
