UFlex Limited, India’s leading flexible packaging company, has been granted Indian Patent No. 567989 for a newly developed water-based heat seal coating composition and its preparation method. This breakthrough provides an environmentally sustainable alternative to conventional plastic-based coatings and supports the industry’s shift toward recyclable and food-safe packaging materials.
The patented formulation is designed for use in heat-sealable packaging, delivering strong resistance to oil and grease when applied to kraft paper. It also serves as an effective blister coating for paper and paperboard. The coating meets food safety regulations and is suitable for packaging applications such as food wraps, takeaway containers, toy packaging, and personal care products.
Notably, this waterborne coating comes ready to use—no dilution is required—making it highly convenient for manufacturers. It features a low seal initiation temperature, strong seal performance, and high hot tack strength. It also complies with USFDA food-contact packaging standards.
This innovation adds to the expanding chemicals portfolio at UFlex, which includes a range of packaging inks, adhesives, and specialty coatings. Developed at the company’s NABL-accredited (ISO/IEC 17025:2017) R&D facility, the product reflects UFlex’s ongoing focus on sustainable technologies, regulatory compliance, and customized packaging solutions.
