Tungaloy Corporation has received two awards from the Japan Cutting & Wear-Resistant Tool Association (JTA), recognising its environmental performance and advances in cutting tool technology. The company received the 2026 Environmental Special Award for reducing carbon dioxide emissions intensity and waste generation, and the 2026 Technical Achievement Award for its DeepTri-Drill indexable gun drilling system.
The latest recognition marks the fourth consecutive year Tungaloy has received a JTA Technical Achievement Award and the third consecutive year it has been recognised for environmental performance. The awards highlight the company’s efforts to improve manufacturing processes while developing tools designed to increase machining productivity and use materials more efficiently.
The 2026 Environmental Special Award recognises Tungaloy’s continued reduction in CO₂ emissions intensity per unit of production and total waste generation over several years. The company previously received the Environmental Grand Prize in 2024 and 2025, making this its third consecutive year of environmental recognition from JTA.
The awards reflect the company’s approach to linking manufacturing efficiency with environmental performance. Reducing emissions intensity and waste requires ongoing improvements in production processes, resource management and operational practices. Tungaloy said its work in these areas forms part of its wider commitment to sustainability.
The second award recognises DeepTri-Drill, an indexable gun drilling system developed for deep-hole machining, with a minimum drill diameter of 8 mm. Small-diameter deep-hole drilling presents challenges in maintaining stability, accuracy and productivity. Tungaloy developed the system to address these requirements through three proprietary technologies designed to support stable and efficient machining. DeepTri-Drill uses an indexable design as an alternative to conventional brazed gun drills. The system is intended to improve machining productivity and process reliability while allowing more efficient use of carbide materials.
Indexable tooling enables the cutting component to be replaced without changing the entire tool, helping manufacturers manage tool maintenance and replacement requirements. In demanding deep-hole applications, stable machining and reliable tool performance are important for maintaining production efficiency and meeting component specifications.
The recognition also reflects the role of specialised cutting tools in manufacturing industries where precision and consistent performance are required. Tungaloy supplies machining solutions to sectors including automotive, aerospace, energy and general engineering.
Founded in 1934, Tungaloy Corporation was Japan’s first manufacturer of cemented carbide products. The company develops and manufactures cutting tools and industrial solutions for a range of machining applications. Its products combine materials technology, tool design and engineering support for manufacturers worldwide. Tungaloy is part of the IMC Group.
The Japan Cutting & Wear-Resistant Tool Association promotes technological development, quality improvement and sustainability in Japan’s cutting tool industry. Its awards recognise contributions to technical progress and environmental performance.
