KPIT Technologies, a global leader in mobility solutions, has partnered with Trentar Energy Solutions Pvt. Ltd. to bring its innovative sodium-ion battery technology to the market. Under this collaboration, KPIT will transfer its breakthrough battery technology to Trentar, which will take it forward for large-scale commercialization in the electric mobility and energy storage sectors.
Sodium-ion batteries offer a longer lifespan, retaining 80% of their capacity over 3,000 to 6,000 cycles, along with faster charging compared to lithium-ion batteries. The technology relies on earth-abundant raw materials, making electric vehicles more affordable for Indian consumers. It holds potential across multiple applications, including two-wheelers, three-wheelers, passenger vehicles, public transport, grid storage, UPS systems, marine, and defense sectors.
With this agreement, Trentar joins a select group of global organizations pioneering sodium-ion battery development. The deal includes an investment in a 3GWh sodium-ion battery manufacturing facility by Trentar. KPIT, in turn, will receive an upfront technology transfer fee along with royalty payments for the next eight years.
