TPSSL Inaugurates India’s largest Solar and Battery Storage Project

Solar-and-Battery-Storage-Project

TPSSL (Tata Power Solar Systems Limited), a prominent solar energy firm in India and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), has recently launched the largest Solar and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) project in India.

Tata Power Solar Systems Limited (TPSSL) is a leading solar energy company in India and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL). TPSSL specializes in providing solar solutions for both ground-mount utility-scale and rooftop installations. With a strong commitment to sustainability, TPSSL focuses on leveraging cutting-edge technology to promote renewable energy adoption in India.

The company’s expertise spans the entire project lifecycle, from engineering and design to supply, construction, testing, operations, and maintenance. TPSSL has a successful track record, with over 12.8 GWp of ground-mount utility-scale installations and more than 2 GW of rooftop and distributed ground-mounted systems. TPSSL is dedicated to driving India’s energy transition and reducing carbon emissions through innovative solar solutions.

This innovative project comprises a 100 MW Solar PV Project combined with a 120 MWh Utility Scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh. Awarded the Rs 945 crore project by the Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd. (SECI) in December 2021 on an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) basis, TPSSL managed the entire project cycle, from engineering and design to supply, construction, testing, operations, and maintenance, culminating in commissioning.

Despite facing challenges such as difficult full hard rock soil conditions and a remote location, TPSSL employed state-of-the-art Bifacial Mono Crystalline technology for the project’s 239,685 modules. The team exhibited exceptional project management and engineering prowess, completing the project on time. Deepesh Nanda, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited, highlighted the project’s significance, attributing it to Tata Power Solar’s technical prowess and project execution capabilities.

The project is anticipated to generate approximately 243.53 million units of energy annually, significantly contributing to India’s renewable energy objectives. Furthermore, it is expected to reduce the carbon footprint by 4.87 million tonnes over 25 years. This initiative aligns with the commitment to leverage cutting-edge technology in the renewable energy sector, supporting India’s energy transition goals.

TPSSL’s leadership in the solar energy sector is evidenced by its extensive track record, which includes more than 12.8 GWp of ground-mount utility-scale installations and over 2 GW of rooftop and distributed ground-mounted systems. The Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) for the project was provided by Tata AutoComp Systems Limited.
