Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has been granted 827 acres of land in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, for setting up a new electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing facility. This comes after TKM signed an agreement with the Maharashtra state government on July 31 to establish a greenfield plant for the production of electric and hybrid vehicles.
According to an official from the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), the plant will be located within a greenfield industrial city, jointly developed by the Central and Maharashtra governments under a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) named Maharashtra Industrial Township Limited (MITL). The project is part of the ongoing development of industrial nodes in Shendra and Bidkin.
The 827-acre plot was officially handed over to TKM, with the company planning to invest ₹21,000 crore in the new plant. Construction is expected to begin soon, with production scheduled to commence by January 2026. The plant is projected to create 8,000 direct jobs and an additional 18,000 indirect jobs.
Maharashtra Chief Minister EknathShinde highlighted that the facility aims to manufacture 4 lakh electric and hybrid vehicles annually, representing a significant ₹20,000 crore investment. The project is expected to transform the automotive industry in the region.
