Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), along with Camdir Toyota and the Department of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, has rolled out the 68th Toyota Technical Education Program (T-TEP) and the STAR Scholarship scheme at the Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Roing. These initiatives aim to offer hands-on technical training and financial aid to students aspiring to build careers in the automotive field.
The new T-TEP training center was inaugurated by Nyato Dukam, Minister for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, who urged students to make the most of the new facilities and emphasized the program’s potential to improve technical education in the state. The event was also attended by senior officials, including Commissioner Saugat Biswas, Deputy Commissioner Soumya Saurabh, Director Sibo Passing, SP Ringu Ngupok, ITI Principal R C Dutta, and TKM Country Head Vikram Gulati.
T-TEP is a year-long training initiative that combines classroom instruction with practical experience at Toyota dealerships. At ITI Roing, the program focuses on training students in the General Technician Category, specifically targeting those in Mechanic Motor Vehicle and Diesel Mechanic trades.
Under the same initiative, the STAR Scholarship program was introduced to support students from low-income families. Eligible students can receive up to ₹51,000 per year to help with expenses such as hostel fees, books, and other academic needs.
Established in 1971, ITI Roing is Arunachal Pradesh’s oldest technical institute. The addition of T-TEP and the scholarship program is expected to further strengthen its relevance to industry needs. Camdir Toyota is also playing a key role by contributing to both training infrastructure and scholarship funding.
The institute’s workshop has been upgraded with new tools, simulators, and modern components for practical training, including access to Toyota’s latest hybrid technology. The first batch includes 20 students, guided by two instructors. Three students have already been chosen as STAR Scholars based on academic performance.
Commissioner Biswas shared that the state aims to extend similar programs to other ITIs and is already working with organizations like Tata, L&T, Honda, and NHPC. He also mentioned plans to send ITI faculty and principals to Toyota’s manufacturing plant in Bangalore for advanced training.
Vikram Gulati highlighted Toyota’s commitment to preparing students for careers in the auto industry through practical, inclusive education. Camdir Toyota’s Dealership Principal, Teli Tada, noted that the initiative is designed to open up more job opportunities for young people in the North-East region.
Through initiatives like T-TEP and STAR, Toyota Kirloskar Motor continues to contribute to national goals such as ‘Skill India’ and ‘Make in India,’ by building strong partnerships between education and industry, and promoting technical training across India.
