Toyota Kirloskar Motor Culminates Environment Month 2025

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) concluded its Environment Month 2025 with the introduction of green logistics operations and a range of sustainability efforts, engaging over 3,100 participants across its entire value chain. The company launched 17 electric trucks in partnership with its logistics partner, set to operate across five critical supply routes. This milestone marks a major advancement towards achieving carbon neutrality under Toyota’s global Environmental Challenge 2050 framework.

The month-long program, titled “Sustainable Resource Management Drive,” focused on the principles of zero-base thinking and plastic elimination throughout the organization. It brought together employees, suppliers, dealers, and community members to collaborate on various environmental initiatives, both within the company and in the wider community.

The rollout of electric trucks is part of TKM’s efforts under Challenge 2 of Toyota’s global environmental goals, which focuses on achieving zero carbon dioxide emissions throughout the product lifecycle. This initiative includes sustainable practices in the supply chain, eco-friendly dealership operations, and green logistics. It builds on the company’s previous green logistics initiatives, such as the Mixed Logistics Model, which optimizes vehicle delivery routes and enhances operational efficiency.

TKM has also taken steps to reduce carbon emissions with its Return Logistics Reduction approach, minimizing empty return trips, and incorporating compressed natural gas trucks into its logistics fleet. The new electric truck initiative further reduces tailpipe emissions and boosts energy efficiency in transportation.

To complement these efforts, TKM hosted a green exhibition at its Bidadi plant through its Sustainovation Hub platform. The exhibition featured eco-friendly products made from natural ingredients, biodegradable materials, and sustainable textiles, including personal care items, home cleaning products, food, and reusable packaging solutions, all designed to promote a chemical-free, eco-conscious lifestyle.

A student-led eco exhibition also took place alongside the corporate display, showcasing over 30 sustainability-focused projects developed by students from the Toyota Technical Training Institute. The models addressed key issues such as waste management, water conservation, energy efficiency, and sustainable living, and were made using zero-cost materials and waste items under the guidance of TKM experts.

TKM’s comprehensive environmental program also included expert-led sessions, awareness campaigns, tree plantation drives, and eco-idea contests, all aimed at boosting environmental awareness among stakeholders. These activities are part of the company’s ongoing commitment to incorporating sustainable practices throughout its manufacturing operations and across its entire value chain.

The company’s environmental efforts are in line with Toyota’s global Environmental Challenge 2050, which focuses on six key challenges introduced in 2015. The first three challenges are dedicated to producing clean technology products and fostering green manufacturing operations to reduce carbon emissions across the vehicle lifecycle, including materials production, vehicle assembly, logistics, and energy use. Challenges four to six focus on reducing water usage, promoting a recycling-based society, and developing future societies that work in harmony with nature.

B Padmanabha, Executive Vice President and Director of Manufacturing at Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said:
“At Toyota Kirloskar Motor, we consider sustainability a shared responsibility that extends across our entire value chain. Our efforts in green logistics, eco-conscious living, and engaging with communities reflect our holistic approach to sustainability. By embedding sustainable practices throughout our operations, we’re not only aligning with Toyota’s global vision but also contributing to India’s national goals for a more resilient, inclusive, and carbon-neutral future.”

Toyota Kirloskar Motor operates two production plants in Bidadi, with a combined annual capacity of 342,000 units. The first plant, established in 1997, produces the InnovaHyCross, InnovaCrysta, Fortuner, and Legender models, with a capacity of 132,000 units. The second plant, which began production in 2010, manufactures the Camry Hybrid, Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Hilux models with a capacity of 210,000 units.
