Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has been awarded the prestigious CSR Times Award 2024 in the ‘Swachh Bharat’ category, honoring its significant contributions to sanitation, health, and hygiene in Raichur, Karnataka. The recognition highlights TKM’s impactful ABCD (A Behavioural Change Demonstration) initiative, which has been instrumental in improving hygiene standards in this aspirational district identified by NITI Aayog.

The award was presented during a ceremony at Darbar Hall, Raj Bhawan, Goa, graced by prominent dignitaries, including Goa Chief Minister Shri PramodSawant and Minister of State for Power and New and Renewable Energy Shri Shripad Yesso Naik. The CSR Times Award, established in 2013, celebrates outstanding corporate social responsibility efforts that contribute to societal well-being. The 11th edition of the National CSR Summit and CSR Times Awards in 2024 continued this tradition, highlighting projects that have made a meaningful difference in communities across India.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s recognition stems from its extensive work in Raichur, where the company implemented the ABCD program across 100 government schools. The program includes practical and theoretical sanitation training for students, teachers, and the community, as well as the provision of necessary supplies, strengthening school cabinets and the School Development and Monitoring Committee (SDMC), and raising awareness through videos. TKM has also trained local communities in maintaining sanitation infrastructure, fostering a culture of health, hygiene, and cleanliness. These efforts have led to significant improvements in the district’s health and hygiene standards.

Mr Vikram Gulati, Country Head and Executive Vice President, Corporate Affairs and Governance at Toyota Kirloskar Motor, expressed his gratitude for the award, stating, “This recognition is a testament to Toyota’s unwavering commitment to creating a sustainable future through impactful corporate social responsibility initiatives. Our focus on driving positive behavioral changes, particularly through our child-to-community approach, ensures long-lasting impact. We are honored to be recognized for our contributions to the Swachh Bharat mission and remain dedicated to driving positive change.”

Launched in 2015 in alignment with the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’, the ABCD Program has empowered students and encouraged positive behavioral changes related to hygiene and sanitation. The program, which originally saw success in Ramanagara District by helping make it open defecation-free, has now been extended to Raichur District, focusing on marginalized communities. A one-year refresher program has also been introduced in Ramanagara to sustain the program’s impact.

In addition to the CSR Times Award, TKM has recently received several other accolades, including the ‘Commendation for Significant Achievement’ at the 18th CII-ITC Sustainability Awards and the CII GreenCo Gold Rating Award for its dealership Rajesh Toyota’s sustainable practices. Last year, TKM was also commended for its contributions to the local community at the ‘CSR Conclave– Education to Make a Social Impact’ event organized by the Government of Karnataka.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s CSR strategy focuses on “Empowering Communities” and “Enriching the Environment,” with projects organized into six key pillars: Skill Development, Road Safety, Education, Environment, Health & Hygiene, and Disaster Management. Since 2001, TKM has integrated CSR into its core philosophy, ensuring its initiatives are aligned with community needs and national priorities for meaningful societal contributions.
