Toyota Kirloskar Motor in association with Government of Mizoram and Zote Toyota Establishes its 67th Toyota Technical Education Program [T-TEP] and STAR Scholarship Initiative in Mizoram

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), in partnership with the Government of Mizoram and Zote Toyota, has officially launched its 67th Toyota Technical Education Program (T-TEP) at the Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Aizawl. The launch of the STAR Scholarship initiative is part of the program’s effort to support students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds who are pursuing technical education.

This scholarship is designed to alleviate financial barriers and help students focus on developing their skills. The initiative particularly targets students from rural areas, aiming to boost their employability through skill development. T-TEP provides training in the General Technician category for final-year ITI and Diploma students specializing in Mechanic Motor Vehicle (MMV) and Diesel Mechanic trades.

The program combines theoretical learning with hands-on experience at Toyota dealerships, equipping students with practical, industry-specific skills. Zote Toyota, a key dealer partner, plays a vital role in both the program’s implementation and supporting the STAR Scholarship.

The STAR Scholarship offers up to ₹51,000 annually to eligible students, covering hostel fees, educational costs, and providing financial support to their families. This initiative aims to ease the financial burden on students pursuing technical education, allowing them to fully concentrate on enhancing their skills. The event was attended by Lalnghinglova Hmar, the Minister of State for Labour, Employment, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship of Mizoram.

TKM, in partnership with its dealer, has invested over ₹1.5 million to improve the infrastructure at Aizawl ITI. The improvements include providing engines, transmissions, practice kits, e-learning content, and faculty training through a Train-the-Trainer approach. This collaboration is part of TKM’s broader strategy to support skill development in line with the “Skill India” and “Make in India” initiatives.

Since its inception in 2006, T-TEP has trained over 13,000 students, with more than 70% securing employment in the automotive sector. TKM plans to expand the program to 10 additional states and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, aiming to strengthen the rural workforce and meet the growing demands of the automotive industry.
