On National Education Day, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) reinforced its commitment to youth skill development by launching new educational and vocational programs for economically disadvantaged youth in Karnataka and across India.

TKM’s initiatives aim to provide job-ready skills, empowering young people for self-sufficiency and contributing to India’s industrial workforce. Central to TKM’s mission is the Toyota Technical Training Institute (TTTI), established in 2007, which has offered free, high-quality technical education for over 15 years to underprivileged students specializing in automobile manufacturing.

In line with the ‘Skill India’ initiative, TKM also introduced the Toyota Kaushalya Programme, a two-year “Learn and Earn” model that combines classroom instruction with on-the-job training (OJT) at Toyota facilities, allowing students to earn while they study.

Another integral part of TKM’s skill development strategy is the Toyota Technical Education Programme (T-TEP), a collaboration with industrial training institutes across India. TKM has established 60 T-TEP centers, which have trained over 13,000 students in a rigorous technical curriculum paired with hands-on experience at Toyota dealerships, providing students with skills in advanced automotive technologies.

TKM’s dedication to skill-building also includes the Technical Intern Training Program (TITP), which gives selected employees the opportunity for hands-on training in Japan, strengthening technical competencies and fostering India-Japan collaboration.

“As we celebrate National Education Day 2024, TKM is committed not only to business growth but to fostering lifelong learning and creating inclusive opportunities,” said G. Shankara, Executive Vice President, Finance and Administration at Toyota Kirloskar Motor. By prioritizing quality education, TKM aims to transform youth into empowered, productive citizens.

Through a partnership with the Government Tool Room & Training Centre (GTTC), TKM is expanding its impact in Karnataka. Since an MoU in 2021, TKM has helped set up 16 GTTC institutes in Karnataka, with a goal to reach 36 by 2026. These institutes focus on skills like automobile welding and assembly, preparing students for careers in the automotive sector.
