Toshiba Energy Systems announced on Monday that its subsidiary, Toshiba Transmission, has signed an initial agreement to invest approximately Rs 562 crore in expanding its manufacturing operations in Telangana. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony took place in Tokyo, attended by Telangana Chief Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy and Hiroshi Furuta, Chairman and Managing Director of Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems (India) Private Limited (TTDI).
The MoU, signed on April 18, 2025, commits TTDI, a subsidiary of Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation (Japan), to invest JPY 10 billion (Rs 562 crore) to expand its manufacturing facilities in the state, according to the official announcement.
“This MoU will strengthen Toshiba’s manufacturing presence in India and support local job creation and skill development. With strong backing from the Government of Telangana, we are set to boost our manufacturing capabilities and provide high-quality, sustainable energy solutions for India and beyond,” Furuta stated.
The proposed Rs 562 crore investment is expected to create over 250 direct jobs over the next three years starting from FY2024, contributing to the region’s socio-economic growth. Both TTDI and the Telangana government expressed a shared interest in exploring future growth opportunities and fostering skill development initiatives aimed at building local talent and reinforcing the industrial ecosystem in the state.
The strategic agreement underscores Toshiba’s long-term commitment to India and enhances its alignment with the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Export from India’ initiatives, marking a significant investment in expanding TTDI’s manufacturing capabilities in Hyderabad. The investment will focus on scaling up assembly and testing capacities for distribution and power transformers, aiming to meet rising demand in India and enhance export opportunities.
Additionally, the investment will establish a cutting-edge facility to improve vertical integration, shorten lead times, and enhance quality, safety, and operational efficiency. With a commitment to quality, innovation, and sustainability, TTDI has successfully exported India-manufactured transformers to over 50 countries, positioning itself as a global leader in the T&D equipment market.
