TKMS and VEM Technologies Sign MoU to Jointly Develop and Produce Heavyweight Torpedoes in India

ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS), a global leader in naval solutions, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hyderabad-based VEM Technologies, a leading Indian defence company specialising in weapon systems, fuselage development, and airborne platforms. The agreement sets the stage for the development, production, integration, testing, and modernization of heavyweight torpedoes, TKMS announced on Wednesday.

Backed by TKMS and its subsidiary ATLAS ELEKTRONIK, VEM Technologies will be responsible for the integration and testing of the torpedoes within India. The collaboration aims to strengthen indigenous capabilities in Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) systems for surface vessels and other strategic naval applications.

The two companies are also considering additional opportunities to strengthen their partnership. Among these is the potential participation in the P75(I) submarine program, which would mark a significant step in expanding their role within India’s defense sector. By engaging in such a critical initiative, both firms aim to contribute to the country’s naval capabilities while showcasing their combined expertise.
