TKIL Industries, formerly Thyssenkrupp Industries India, announced its foray into green hydrogen production by acquiring a stake in Swiss firm Sohhytec SA. This partnership grants TKIL access to a solar-powered technology that directly generates green hydrogen.

Vivek Bhatia, CEO of TKIL, highlighted the company’s capability to produce pressurized hydrogen and develop the necessary infrastructure for storage and refueling vehicles. “We are engaging with oil marketing companies and have submitted proposals for hydrogen-based retail facilities,” Bhatia said. He added that automotive advancements, including a Japanese hydrogen-powered vehicle already on the market, pave the way for heavy vehicles to benefit from this clean fuel.

Bhatia emphasized that Sohhytec’s solar-driven hydrogen production is a transformative step, describing the technology as mimicking photosynthesis to produce green hydrogen. While details of the financial investment remain undisclosed, the innovation has undergone four years of successful pilot testing, according to Sohhytec CEO Saurabh Tembhurne.

On cost, Bhatia indicated that TKIL could produce green hydrogen for approximately ₹400 per kilogram without subsidies. Discussions are ongoing with industries like steel manufacturing to explore broader applications beyond oil companies. The technology’s modular and off-grid nature allows it to be implemented in remote areas with minimal land requirements, Tembhurne noted.

Currently, TKIL and Sohhytec are targeting a capacity of up to 100 MW for green hydrogen production within a year. This initiative is part of TKIL’s strategy to triple its revenue to ₹10,000 crore over the next five years, driven by ventures like green hydrogen and other emerging sectors. Bhatia affirmed that the company’s robust cash reserves will support its expansion goals.

TKIL Industries, previously known as Thyssenkrupp Industries India, is a prominent industrial player committed to driving innovation and sustainability in energy and infrastructure sectors. With a diversified portfolio that spans manufacturing, engineering, and clean energy solutions, TKIL is at the forefront of India’s transition to green energy.

The company is leveraging its expertise to deliver groundbreaking solutions in areas such as hydrogen energy, aiming to support industries like transportation and steel in achieving sustainability goals.
