Titagarh Rail Systems Limited has begun exporting traction converters to Italy. This is part of a EUR 7.18 million (about ₹65 crore) deal with Titagarh Firema S.p.A. The first batch of eight traction converters was shipped to Titagarh Firema in Italy. These converters were made at Titagarh’s Passenger Rolling Stock Facility in India.
Titagarh Firema, an Italian associate of Titagarh, received an order from Regione Lazio, Italy, to design, manufacture, and supply 38 trainsets. The total value of this order is about EUR 276 million (around ₹2,484 crore).
Titagarh Rail Systems will supply traction converters for the first batch of 11 trains. These trains will run on the Regione Lazio Viterbo line, which operates at 3 kilovolts, and the Regione Lazio Lido line, operating at 1.5 kilovolts. Titagarh India plans to ship two train sets, or eight converters, each month to fulfill this order.
Currently, Titagarh’s Passenger Rolling Stock Facility in India produces 25 converters per month, with plans to double this capacity soon. This development comes as railway stocks, including Titagarh, are facing a slump after the 2024 Union Budget.
The budget kept capital expenditure unchanged at ₹11.11 lakh crore, causing a downturn in railway stocks like RVNL, IRFC, Titagarh, and IRCON, which had hoped for an increase in spending on railway infrastructure.
