Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd (TRSL) has won a major contract valued at ₹1,598.55 crore to deliver 108 metro coaches for Mumbai Metro’s Line 6. The order includes comprehensive responsibilities—ranging from design and manufacturing to testing, commissioning, and integration of the train sets.
The Letter of Acceptance (LoA) has been issued by NCC Ltd, which is executing the corridor project on behalf of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). TRSL will serve as the specialist subcontractor for rolling stock supply.
As part of the deal, TRSL will deliver 18 trainsets—each comprising six coaches—for Line 6, which will run between Swami Samarth Nagar and Vikhroli (Eastern Express Highway). The delivery timeline for the design and build phase is set at 104 weeks. Afterward, a two-year defect liability period will be followed by five years of comprehensive maintenance.
According to Deputy Managing Director Pritish Chowdhary, the project’s margin is expected to remain in the 9–10% range, in line with current levels. He added that profitability may improve further with ongoing capacity expansion and backward integration efforts. Presently, each coach costs an estimated ₹10–11 crore, depending on specific requirements.
