Informa Markets India is gearing up to launch The Battery Show India (TBSI), a pioneering event in advanced battery manufacturing, set to become the country’s premier annual gathering for the battery, energy storage, and transportation sectors. The event is inspired by the successful Battery Shows in the USA and Europe, and it is expected to attract over 200 brands, 8000 trade visitors, and 50 speakers. TBSI will be co-located with the Renewable Energy India Expo, creating a platform for around 50,000 visitors and fostering collaboration among industry leaders. The event’s preview showcased the active participation of Karnataka, with 12 premium exhibitors like Siemens, Saint-Gobain, Log 9, and Tessorn EV.
The importance of batteries in transforming India’s energy sector was emphasized by Vineet Bhatia, Executive Director, Energy and Renewables, and Grant Thornton. With yearly predictions of 260 GW, the Indian battery business presents a significant $15 billion market opportunity, spanning electric vehicles, grid storage batteries, and behind-the-meter applications. Government initiatives, with investment potential ranging from $42 billion to an astounding $150 billion, highlight India’s commitment to this growth. However, challenges remain, especially in securing vital minerals like nickel, cobalt, and lithium.
Ketan Chitnis, Business Head – Advanced Cell, L & T Energy, spoke about transitioning to lithium-ion cell production and the industry’s ambitious goal of reaching 250 GWH by 2030. Ritesh Patterson, General Manager – Performance Plastics and ADFORS, Saint-Gobain, highlighted the expansion into the battery thermal management system market, which is expected to grow at a CAGR of 23.3% up to 2030.
